TIP OF THE DAY!
A small dining room, half-bath, entrance, or staircase will seem a lot more grand, spacious and luxurious if you add some big paintings with horizontal lines of strokes. If what you want is to create a sense of the ceilings being taller, make sure they are big enough to bring them close to the upper edge of the wall.
Vertical lines will also help elevate but they tend to provide tension so they are better for a painting in a big staircase for example.
